Active Learning for Quality Education

‘We try to provide our poor children with quality education – quality of the learners, of learning environment, of teaching-learning process and of content.

For the quality of our learners: we look after the children for their health and nourish with some family support and create the activities to be able to participate in learning. Then, our social worker helps the families of our children deal with some of the problems they face.

For the quality of learning environment: we try to arrange the appropriate classrooms with the cooperation of the community and local authorities, provide teaching-learning materials so that the children will be able to enjoy learning by doing.  Our NFE teachers are trained to create a good emotional learning environment for our children–especially important for children who have encountered much hardship of lives.  They deal with them warmly, and with great loving kindness. Through various activities, they create an environment where social learning environment can take place.

For the quality of the teaching-learning process: we provide the teachers with courses twice a year. These aim to create the attractive and effective teaching-learning process.  We emphasise good class-management and interesting active learning exercises.  The marvellous thing about Active learning is the children to work happily and eagerly–and learn at the same time.  They work individually or in groups together or pairs, to think during their learning, and to share their thoughts to others.  Regular mentoring, monitoring and evaluation of class teachers help to improve the quality of teaching the children receive.

The more actively children are involved, the more they learn:

-       To hear, is to forget

-       To hear and see, is to remember,

-       To hear, see and do, is to understand

Therefore, we draw the attention of our children by using their all senses to happy learning. Thus, they construct their new knowledge on their previous knowledge and experience rather than transmit the knowledge from the teachers.

Therefore, we believe that our children will, at the end of their learning, achieve the quality education which can positively change their knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able to positively participate in our society as a good citizen and to stand on their feet with self-confidence for their future lives.”
